Make a payment of Council Tax
You can pay your Council Tax by any of the methods listed here, but the easiest way to pay regularly is by monthly Direct Debit.
Make sure you have your Council Tax account number to hand when you want make a payment. You'll find that on your bill.

Pay by Direct Debit
Save yourself time and money by paying by Direct Debit. This is also our preferred method of receiving your payments as it the most cost effective method of collection.
Please telephone us on 01822 618800 and our Customer Services Team will be able to set one up for you over the telephone. Alternatively you can download a Direct Debit mandate form from this page and post it to us. We can offer you a choice of payment dates:
- 1st of the month
- 15th of the month
- 28th of the month.
Pay by Debit Card or Credit Card
You can make payment 24 hours a day by calling our automated payment line on 0300 3333232 alternatively call the Customer Service Team on 01822 618800 during opening hours.
Please note that an additional charge of 1% will be payable on all credit card transactions.
Pay by Standing Order, internet banking or in person at a bank or building society

You must quote these details when making the payment. Your reference number for the payment will be your Council Tax account number.
A fee may be chargeable for each transaction and you should check this before you make your payment.
Pay in person
The council accepts payments at the cash office at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock or Okehampton Customer Service Centre, 10 St James Street, Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm.

Please write your Council Tax account number on the back of your cheque. Receipts will not be issued for payment by cheque, unless specifically requested.
Do not send cash through the post. A receipt will not be issued unless a stamped addressed envelope is supplied.
From April 1st 2014 you will be able to make payments via PayPoint outlets and Post Offices using the bar-code on your bill. Only cash and cheque payments can be accepted by this method with a minimum payment of £5.00. Please keep your receipt safe.

From April 1st 2014 the council will no longer accept payments made by payment card. Please destroy your card or return it to the council.
