Housing Register

A list of people who want affordable housing in West Devon

How can I apply to go on the Housing Register?

You will need to complete an application form for the Council's allocation scheme, which is called Devon Home Choice. You can apply on-line using the  Devon Home Choice link www.devonhomechoice.com or contact us for an application form .

What is Devon Home Choice?

Devon Home Choice has replaced Homefinder Direct as the way of allocating affordable rented housing in Devon. It gives you, the applicant, more choice over where you will live. Applicants are banded according to their housing need. Council's and housing associations will advertise their vacant properties weekly and applicants can choose to apply for any of the properties that they are eligible for.

The following link on You Tube helps explain what Devon Home Choice is and how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VHj65Ob_Q8

How will I know what I am eligible to apply for?

When we receive your completed application form we will assess your housing need, and we will write to let you know what band you are in and what size and type of property you can apply for. Some properties will be labelled in the advert for particular needs groups, e.g sheltered housing for older people, or an adapted property for people with a disability.

How do I apply for a property?

You can telephone us on 01822 813600, write to us at the Council Offices, Kilworthy Park, Tavistock PL19 0BZ, call into either of the Offices in Tavistock or in Okehampton, apply on-line at: www.devonhomechoice.com or through the red button if you have digital television .

You will need to tell us your application number and the reference number of the property advertised. You can apply for up to 3 properties at a time.

Who will get the property if lots of people apply?

The property will be offered to the applicant who is in the highest band and who has been in that band for the longest time.

What if my situation changes?

You will need to tell us about any changes in your circumstances. We will look again at your application and we may change your band.

I have a medical problem. Do you need to know about it?

If you tell us about a medical problem, the details will be put before a panel of health professionals who will decide whether or not your band should be altered. Your band will only be changed if there is a clear link between your housing need and your medical problem.
