Do I need Building Regulations?
Generally you will need to put in a Building Regulations application if you are doing any of the following. Erecting or extending a building, Altering a building in a way that could affect the structural stability, Altering the fire precautions, fire excapes or disabled access, Inserting insulating material into the cavity wall of a building, Underpinning a building, Changing the use of a building, by sub-dividing or just converting from one purpose group to another. How do I submit an application?
There are three ways of submitting an application: Full plans, submitting all working drawings for approval. Commercial properties must apply this way, Building Notice, this is a notification of works to be carried out, Regularisation, this is a retrospective application for works already carried out.
How long will it take ?
For full plans, it can take between 2 and 5 weeks, Building Notice it will take 48 hours for acknowledgement. The timescales for Regularisation depend whether any remedial works need to be carried out.
Is there a fee?
Yes, this is dependent on size/cost of works please see our table of fees which you will find in get this service now. Note some disabled works may be exempt of fees.
How do I get an application form and where do I send the form to?
You can download a form from our get this service now or you can contact us on 01822 813600 and we will post an application form to you. You can send your form back to The Devon Building Control Partnership.
