Friday Night Fitness Zone

Friday Night Fitness Zone HeaderThis is a project aimed at 11 - 16 year olds who are out and about on Friday evenings. Friday Night Fitness Zone will be based at Tavistock Community Sports Centre. we have worked together with the  Police Commuity Support team, Active Devon and Tavistock Community Sports Centre to come up with a fun and engaging offer for young people in Tavistock and surrounding areas. They can choose from circuit training and football for just £1 for both, or kick boxing for just £2. Sessions will be fun and informal, but led by qualified, knowledgeable coaches.

Active Villages Project

Active Villages LogoDevon Active Villages is a county wide programme co-ordinated by Active Devon (The county sports partnership). Here in West Devon the project is led by West Devon Borough Council working in Partnership with OCRA. This project will support rural communities to develop long-term sports opportunities which enable people of all ages to experience the fun of sport and build a life-long love of being active and healthy.

The programme aims to increase sports participation in Devon's Rural communities by supporting village based opportunities. The funding to do this is provided from Sport England Lottery and Devon County Council.

During the pilot phase we will be working with: Lifton and Hatherleigh

During phase one we will be working with: Dartmoor Forest, Chagford, Lamerton and Noth Tawton 

During phase two OCRA will be working with: Gulworthy, Meavy, Okehampton Hamlets and Whitchurch

What is the FANS Scheme?

Heather Fell The FANS (Free Access for National Sportspeople) scheme provides sportspeople of a national level with free access to sport and leisure facilities for personal training and development. In West Devon we offer free membership to our Leisure Centres for junior and senior athletes currently listed in the top 10 nationally, in a sport recognised by Sport England. Sportivate

Sportivate Logo with Lottery brandingWith the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics fast approaching there has never been a better opportunity to encourage more people to take part in sport and physical activity. 'Sportivate' is a nationwide campaign that will capture the excitement of the London 2012 Games by providing opportunities for teenagers and young adults (aged 14-25) to receive coaching in a sport of their choice and guide them into regular participation within their community. The scheme is being coordinated by Active Devon and there is lots of infomration at: www.activedevon.org/sportivate  If your sports club or organisation would like to run a 6 - 8 week Sportivate programme in West Devon then please conatct the Sports Development Officer to disucss how to submit a bid. 

Devon Sports Awards 2010/11

Congratulations are in order for our West Devon sports volunteers following the Devon Sports Awards on Thursday 17th February 2011. The event, which was attended by many sporting personalities, was hosted by Active Devon and supported by West Devon Borough Council. The sporting awards are held annually to recognise the achievements and successes of the many coaches, teachers and volunteers who give their time freely for the good of sport in Devon. Change 4 Life Change4Life is a national campaign which encourages our nation to eat well, move more and live longer, happier lifes! There is lots of information provided to help families and individuals take simple steps to becoming healthy and active.
