Licensing of Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Vehicles
How do I licence a motor vehicle as a Hackney Carriage?
You need to provide the following documents in order to obtain a licence for a Hackney Carriage vehicle: a completed Hackney Carriage Vehicle Licence application form, the vehicle registration document, a certificate of insurance showing that the vehicle is covered for hire and reward and a current MOT certificate. The fee must also be included and we will arrange for the vehicle to be tested by our engineer at a designated garage.
How do I licence a motor vehicle as a Private Hire vehicle?
You need to provide the following documents: a completed Private Hire Vehicle Licence application form, the vehicle registration document, a certificate of insurance and a current MOT certificate. You must also include the appropriate fee and you will be required to hold an operator's licence.
How do I become a Private Hire operator?
All Private Hire vehicles must be covered by an operator's licence, which can be downloaded here, by following the appropriate link.
