Housing and Council Tax Benefits
Housing and Council Tax Benefits are National Welfare Benefits, administered by Local Authorities. The purpose of housing benefit is to help people on low-income pay their rent. Council tax benefit is to help people on low-income pay their council tax.
Second Adult Rebate is for people who cannot get help with their council tax bill, but have other people living with them on low income.
If you would like to claim you will need to complete a claim form and these can be obtained from the address below. When completed the form (together with evidence of your income, savings, National Insurance number and identity) can be sent to or handed in at the following address. Detailed information leaflets are also available.

Benefit normally starts from the Monday following the day we receive your claim form. However, in certain circumstances it can start from an earlier date, this is known as backdating.
