West Devon Borough Council, along with other Devon Authorities, will be taking part in Swimming Pool Safety Awareness Day in February 2020.

Swimming Pool Safety Awareness Day

The Awareness Day has been specifically designed for the smaller swimming pools operator in the Hotel and Holiday let industry or similar with a view to raising pool safety awareness, enabling you to operate your pool to the required standards.  Representatives from larger pools are also welcome to attend to update and refresh pool safety knowledge.

The topics covered will include:

  • Operator training
  • Risk assessment
  • Written procedures - Normal Operating Plan (NOP) & Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  • Pool hire arrangements
  • Controlling poolside access
  • Safe pool - physical surroundings, profile, outlets, inlets & features
  • Safe use - pool rules, supervision & lifeguarding
  • Safe plant - maintenance & record keeping
  • Safe pool water - treatment, monitoring, corrective actions, recording & test kits
  • Safe storage of chemicals & appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

The Awareness Day will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is being held at the following locations across Devon:

The cost of the Awareness Day is £20, including refreshments and lunch. Each attendee will also receive a swimming pool operator work book, which is being produced to coincide with this project.
