West Devon celebrates its community heroes

Our outgoing Mayor for 2023/2024 has given thanks to the West Devon heroes who are making outstanding contributions to their local communities.

Much of the work taking place supports some of our core objectives to protect the natural environment, improve residents’ health and wellbeing and increase community action.

The 2023/2024 Mayor’s Awards which took place in early spring highlighted just some of the selfless hard work which goes on across the Borough.

These are the last awards for Cllr Lynn Daniel as the Mayor of West Devon, whose term ended this month. She said: “It is fantastic to be able to celebrate the end of my term of office with some of the amazing work these outstanding residents and organisations are doing to support our communities.

“Our communities are the beating heart of our towns and parishes and with the dedication and hard work of our residents, together we can make West Devon thrive.”

This year’s winners are:

  • Green Award - Matt Parkins Co-founder of Wild Oke, an organisation which supports conservation and biodiversity.
  • Organisation Award - Bridestowe Cricket Club, North Tawton Rugby Club, Okehampton Rugby Club who have come together to fundraise over £20,000 for mental health.
  • Over 18s – Tania Kovalchuk, a Ukrainian national who has been supporting the Ukrainian community.
