Standards Committee

Meetings of the Standards Committee consist of five Borough Councillors who are appointed annually by full Council.

The Committee meets once a year, but there is provision to hold additional meetings and Sub-Committee meetings should the need arise.

What does the Standards Committee do?

The full list of functions and procedure rules for the Standards Committee can be found in Part 3b of the Constitution Delegation Scheme (see Our Constitution). The main responsibilities of the Committee are:

  • To promote and maintain high standards of conduct by Councillors
  • To advise and train Councillors on the Code of Conduct
  • To consider complaints alleging a breach of the Code of Conduct by Borough Councillors and those members of town and parish councils in the Borough of West Devon, to hold hearings  and to recommend sanctions or other actions.
